At Millbury Public Schools, we believe every student deserves learning experiences that are meaningful, challenging, and designed to help them see themselves as capable learners.

Our Instructional Vision reflects what we want learning to feel like for every student, in every classroom, across our district. We want our students to be more than participants in school.  We want them to be active participants in their own learning and in the learning of others.

In Millbury, our goal is for every student to:

  • Engage in meaningful and purposeful learning experiences that help them understand not only what they are learning, but why it matters.

  • Take an active role in learning by thinking, questioning, collaborating, communicating, and contributing.

  • Be challenged to apply, analyze, evaluate, and create, developing the confidence and skills to work through complex ideas and solve problems.

  • Be seen, valued, heard, and personally known as an individual and as an important member of our school community.

Bringing this vision to life requires intentional planning. Across Millbury, educators use a shared Instructional Planning Model—Objective, Thinking, and Activities (OTA)—to design learning experiences around three important questions:

  1. Objective: What do we want students to learn?

  2. Thinking: What do we want students to think about and do with that learning?

  3. Activities: What experiences will allow students to engage in that thinking and demonstrate their learning?

This shared approach helps us keep the focus where it belongs: on what students are experiencing, thinking, and doing.

We also believe that meaningful learning is not always easy. Students need opportunities to wrestle with ideas, make mistakes, revise their thinking, ask questions, and try again. Our educators work to provide the right balance of challenge and support so that students can build independence, confidence, and a belief in their own ability to do hard things.

Ultimately, our Instructional Vision is about creating classrooms where students know that their thinking matters, their voice matters, and they matter.

It is the commitment we make to our students, our families, and our community: to continue building learning experiences that challenge students, connect with them, and prepare them to think deeply, contribute meaningfully, and thrive wherever their path takes them.
